On February 3, 2024, Dire Dawa University in Ethiopia hosted a regional conference on the role of higher education institutions working in peacebuilding with a particular focus on Somaliland, Djibouti, and Ethiopia. Representatives from different Ethiopian Universities, government officials, community members, and a team from the University of Hargeisa attended the conference.

The team from Somaliland explained how the country firstly established peace by applying its indigenous mediation mechanisms to solve conflicts and later developed political institutions which survive till today.

Furthermore, and very importantly, the team emphasized the role that the University of Hargeisa plays in strengthening those peacebuilding efforts and making state institutions viable, inclusive, and impactful.
