On 13th August, 2022, a delegation from the United States paid an official visit to the University of Hargeisa. Receiving a very warm welcome from the University’s Vice President for Academic and Research, the delegation toured campus to learn more about one of Somaliland’s oldest educational institutions. The delegation also paid a visit to the University’s Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies (IPCS) where the director of the Institute presented on IPCS community services and research contributions.
During the visit, the delegation had an academic, roundtable dialogue with members of the University community to discuss the changing political dynamics of the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, and Somaliland’s strategic importance in an age of a New Cold War. The discussion also reviewed possible U.S. policy shifts towards Somaliland and ways the two countries could mutually benefit from their developing cooperation.
