Ayan Yusuf Ali

Ayan Yusuf Ali is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Nairobi in Kenya and Roskilde
University in Denmark. Mrs. Ayan also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International
Relations and Politics (Hons) from the University of Reading, United Kingdom, and an
MA in International Studies (Merit) from University of Birmingham, also in the United
Kingdom. While her Ph.D thesis focuses on “Pastoralism and Climate Change in
Togdheer Region of Somaliland”, Mrs. Ayan has an extensive experience in research
having applied her skills with the District Conflict and Security Assessments (DCSA) at
the Observatory of Conflict and Violence Prevention (OCVP), conducting field interviews
and report writing. Mrs. Ayan has also mapped out the various migration camps in
Hargeisa, by applying qualitative and quantitative research methods for University of
Sussex and Durham. Before joining IPCS in 2020 as a research and projects manager,
she was the coordinator for peace and conflict mediation works in the eastern part of
Somaliland for the Academy for Peace and Development (APD), funded by Swedish
SIDA. Currently, Ayan leads different projects at IPCS including the DANIDA funded
climate change project and transitional justice program in Sool and Sanaag for
INTERPEACE. Mrs. Ayan speaks Somali, Swedish, and English fluently and capable of
understanding Norwegian and Danish languages.
