The Institute’s programs require applicants to possess a strong educational foundation, starting with a bachelor’s degree certificate. In conjunction with the requirements of the University of Hargeisa’s Graduate Programs, admission to the IPCS master’s programs requires applicant’s successful completion of secondary school and a bachelor’s degree from a recognized higher education institution. As part of the Institute’s assessment for the student’s academic record, the Institute considers certificate relevance, degree subject, and grades achieved.

The Institute anchors and attracts a substantial number of students each academic year. This attests to the Institute’s growing reputation on a local, regional, and global scale. Our alumni have become prominent politicians or have assumed influential roles in society. Notably, the Institute takes pride in its alumnus, the President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E Musa Bihi Abdi. Additional distinguished alumni include Abdirahman Aw Ali Farah, former Vice President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi, the chairman of the Somaliland National Party (Waddani), as well as prominent figures such as key government ministers from Somaliland’s successive administrations, members of parliament, representatives from civil society organizations, diplomats, to name just a few.
The Institute was collaboratively founded by the University of Hargeisa and Eastern Mennonite University in the United States in 2008 to serve public benefit. The Institute has since garnered national, regional, and global recognition. Throughout its distinguished history, IPCS has provided access to a wide range of academic opportunities. As a pioneering regional leader in peace, conflict and security studies, the Institute has played a key role in driving positive change in the sector.
