In partnership with the UCL Institute of Education, the Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies is involving a research and capacity building project. The aim is to develop a higher education course on Education, Conflict and Peacebuilding through broad consultations with stakeholders, literature reviews and empirical research in the Somali region. The course will have a specific focus on understanding the role of education in production and prevention of socio-political tensions and developing skills for conflict resolution and peacebuilding. It aims to provide a critical understanding of the interactions between education and conflict in Somali society and promote conflict sensitive approaches to learning.

Furthermore, the IPCS and the Rift Valley Institute are jointly implementing a capacity building for research project funded by the Somalia Stability Fund (SSF). This project is aimed to support for the delivery of the highest quality research in the Somali higher learning institutions, including Somaliland. Not only to this project, but the IPCS and RVI jointly organizes public seminars and forums to attract wider audiences.

There are other parallel researches implemented by the Institute on different pressing and timely themes such as drought and natural disasters that hit frequently in Somaliland. The recent research is “Mitigating Natural Disasters in Somaliland: Policy Options and Strategies” published by the Institute.
