IPCS and World Peace Initiative conclude a symposium on the role of youth in violence reduction

The Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies (IPCS), the leading peace and conflict studies institute in the Somali-speaking region in the Horn of Africa, in collaboration with the World Peace Initiative, hosted a two-day forum on peace and youth on 29–30 July, 2017 at the University of Hargeisa, Somaliland. Dr Adan Yusuf Abokor from Rift Valley Institute, Donnah Atwagala from the Institute of Peace and Strategic Studies (IPSS) at Gulu University in northern Uganda, Mariam Mohamed Sahal from the University of Hargeisa, Timothoy Onyanga from World Peace Initiative and Mohamed Ahmed Mohamoud from Somaliland Non-State Actors Forum (SONSAF) were the key presenters attended the symposium. Youth and violence, youth and unemployment, youth and peacebuilding and the impact of war on youth were among the major themes presented at the two-day symposium. The sessions emphasized the role of youth in peace and violence reduction.
